One of the objectives of BMMS 2016 was to estimate national level prevalence of obstetric fistula (OF) and 3rd/4th stage pelvic organ prolapse (POP), however, clinical examination of self reported cases of OF and POP from BMMS 2016 was not feasible.
Therefore, a complementary Maternal Morbidity Validation Study was conducted in 2016 by icddr,b in collaboration with MEASURE Evaluation, Fistula Care Plus project and MaMoni HSS project to get an estimated value through self-reporting verified through clinical examination which was later applied in the BMMS 2016 to get the national estimate of OF and POP.
Preliminary results of this study were disseminated in January 2018.
