Dr Shehreen Zakir
Dr Shehreen Zakir is currently working as a Research Investigator with the Maternal and Child Health Division (MCHD) of icddr,b. She is currently working with Bangladesh Adolescent Health & Wellbeing Survey 2019-20 and other research projects.
Dr Shehreen completed her fellowship as a Research Trainee with RDM on 2019. Her journey with icddr,b has helped her gaining expertise on preparing data collection tools, concept notes, protocols, conducting training of data collectors, analyzing data and writing reports. Also, her communications and managerial skills vastly improved from taking on responsibilities to organize meetings with various stakeholders. She has received advanced trainings on STATA, qualitative research methods, implementation research methods and a manuscript writing course offered by a senior editor of The Lancet.
Dr Shehreen completed her Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Bangladesh Dental College and Masters in Public Health from North South University on Epidemiology. Previously, she has worked as an independent researcher and also as a postgraduate trainee in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital.

Shema Mhajabin joined icddr,b as a Research Trainee in 2018. IN 2020, after completion of her two-year fellowship with RDM, she started working as a Research Investigator with the Maternal and Child Health Division (MCHD) of icddr,b. She has been involved as a Co-Investigator in developing multiple research proposals and full-length research protocols adopting a wide range of designs including household surveys, health facility assessment surveys, key informant surveys, and in depth interviews. She has contributed significantly to developing complex data collection tools and supervising data collection teams with different types of expertise for these projects.
She is working as a focal person with a multicounty study titled “Advancing Routine Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) to deliver for Every Newborn (EN-BIRTH study phase 2): Assessing the feasibility of incorporating, and exploring data quality and utility for selected maternal and newborn indicators in Kushtia, Bangladesh”. In this project, she is communicating effectively with multiple partners nationally and globally to advance the project work and to implement the activities in the study site.
She has co-authored three papers which were published in peer-reviewed journals. Due to her extensive support to the technical committee in data analysis, report writing, and dissemination in different capacities, she was listed as a key contributor of the final report of Bangladesh Health Facility Survey 2017 and Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey 2017.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shema has been integrally involved in icddr.b’s COVID-19 responses, which demonstrates her dedication to public health and the ability to adapt to changing contexts in public health emergencies.
Shema Mhajabin achieved her BSc in Public Health from Asian University for Women (AUW) in 2014 and MPH from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in 2017.

Research InvestigatorDr. Hashama Jahan Yousuf
Dr. Hashama Jahan Yousuf completed her MBBS from Sher-E-Bangla Medical College, Barisal in 2011. She completed her Masters in Business Administration from Stamford University Dhaka and Masters in Public Health from North South University in 2016. Dr. Yusuf joined BRAC as a Senior Medical Officer under Tuberculosis Program in Health Nutrition and Population Program, Health (HNPP-Health) in 2011. She also got the opportunity to work as a Research Associate in the Research and Evaluation Division (RED) at BRAC in 2015. Her major interest lies to pursue her career with a renowned and professional organization that would provide her, the platform to apply her professional expertise and commitment to work for the mass people. She is now working as a Research Trainee under USAID’s RDM activity in a project “Alternative Methods of Measuring Maternal Mortality” in Maternal and Child Health Division at icddrb.

Research TraineeDr Shakil Ahmed
Dr Shakil Ahmed started his two-year fellowship with RDM from March 2020. He is currently working with the project titled “A cohort study to examine the dynamics of decision-making process for maternal health care services in Bangladesh”. His major responsibilities include, supervision and monitoring of field activities; quality assurance of collected data; coordination, organization, and implementation of project related training programs; and coordination with different key stakeholders. Dr Shakil also assists in development of concept notes, research protocols, data collection tools, training manuals, and guidelines.
Since joining icddr,b, Dr Shakil has received several professional trainings on result-based management (RBM), scientific writing, proposal development, data analysis, and reference management.
Dr Shakil completed his MBBS BDS with one-year internship from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dental Unit and obtained Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree from North South University. He also holds certificates of “Cambridge Advanced Short Course on Non Communicable Diseases” from the Cambridge University, UK, and “Shaping the Future of Global Health” from the University of Toronto, Canada.

Research FellowDr Dewan Imtiaz Rahman
Dr Dewan Imtiaz Rahman started his fellowship with RDM from March 2020. Currently, he is working with the study titled Advancing Routine Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) to deliver for Every Newborn (EN-BIRTH study phase 2): Assessing the feasibility of incorporating, and exploring data quality and utility for selected maternal and newborn indicators in Kushtia, Bangladesh, since. In past one year, he has been assigned various responsibilities of data collection, desk review, online training of the staff for several emergency COVID-19 related projects as well. Dewan believes that his on the job training will be instrumental in achieving his aspiration to become a globally recognized Public Health practitioner.
Dr Dewan completed his MBBS and one year internship training from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM). Before starting his fellowship with RDM, Dewan worked with Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Program (DEPP) of Innovation Lab Bangladesh, and the Infectious Diseases Division of icddr,b, in different capacities.
Dr Dewan Imtiaz Rahman
Research FellowTania Sultana Tanwi
Tania Sultana Tanwi is currently working as a Research Investigator in Maternal and Child Health Division (MCHD) at icddr,b. She is acting as the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Coordinator in the project titled ‘Essential health care for disadvantaged people in Bangladesh’ funded by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of UK Government.
Tania joined icddr,b back in 2018 as a Research Fellow for RDM. She worked in the project titled “Independent Reference Group (IRG) for tracking progress towards Universal Health Coverage in Bangladesh”. She has received several professional trainings including Economic Evaluation for UHC and Program Impact Evaluation using Longitudinal Data.
Tania achieved Distinction in both Bachelor and Masters in Economics from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. For her academic excellence in Bachelor, she has been awarded with ‘Prime Minister Gold Medal 2015’. Before joining icddr,b, she worked as a Research Assistant in two different projects at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

Research InvestigatorDr Sabrina Choudhury
Dr Sabrina Choudhury completed her two-year fellowship with RDM on September 2020. She is currently working as a Project Research Physician (PRP) with the Infectious Diseases Division (IDD) of icddr,b. Sabrian believes that the fellowship has helped her to enhance her skill on writing scientific papers, public speaking, and managerial works. In her current role as a PRP, she is serving presumptive TB patients, providing treatments, managing eTB tools, building rapport and keeping liaison with physicians, adjacent DOTS and NGOs and also maintaining reporting of the TB presumptive and positive patients from TB Screening and Treatment Centers located in Uttara and Mirpur. She is also monitoring COVID lab activities at Mirpur TB Screening Centre as this is a site for COVID testing by Gene Xpert.
Dr Sabrina completed her MBBS with one year internship from Shahabuddin Medical College and Hospital and Masters of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM). During her fellowship tenure, Dr Sabrina worked with the implementation research project titled ‘Evaluation of Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra for the Diagnosis of Childhood Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) Using Stool Specimen’.
Dr Sabrina Choudhury

Shahed Sufian completed his two-years fellowship with USAID’s RDM Activity on March 2021. He is currently working icddr,b’s Maternal and Child Health Division (MCHD) as a Research Trainee under an RDM-study titled “Assessment of the national community and facility RMNCH eRegisters in Bangladesh.” His responsibilities include monitoring and quality control of health information system, proposal preparation, scientific analysis and project administration.
On academic front, Sufian completed his Masters in Biomedical Physics and Technology from University of Dhaka and MPH from BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health. Before joining icddr,b; Sufian had three years of experience first as a lecturer at University of Information Technology and Sciences, and later as a project manager and research associate at Dhaka University Telemedicine Programme. He received professional training on leadership, design thinking, project management, technology development, and entrepreneurship.

Shahed Sufian
Research TraineeUsing the platform of the existing research fellow/trainee program of icddr,b, RDM has set to develop the capacity of young researchers with a special focus on implementation research and delivery science. Research fellows/trainees under this program are enrolled for a two-year period and tagged with different study teams which help them gain both theoretical learning and hands on experience on conducting implementation research.
